About Caesar Cipher
The Caesar cipher is one of the oldest known encryption techniques. It works by shifting each letter in the plaintext by a fixed number of positions in the alphabet. Named after Julius Caesar, who used it to communicate with his generals. It's easily broken and should only be used for fun or education.
Understanding Encryption Methods
Classical Ciphers
- Caesar Cipher: Shifts letters by a fixed amount (e.g., A→D with shift 3)
- ROT13: Special case of Caesar with shift of 13, self-inverting
- Atbash: Reverses the alphabet (A↔Z, B↔Y, etc.)
- Vigenere: Uses a keyword to determine variable shifts
Modern Encryption
AES-256: Advanced Encryption Standard with 256-bit key length. This is the industry standard for secure encryption, used by governments and organizations worldwide. Unlike classical ciphers, AES is computationally secure and suitable for protecting sensitive information.
